Arrival & Parking
There is room for 2 cars on the gravel behind the house. Parking is also permitted along the road in front of the house. Please park downhill.
There is off-road parking on the gravel opposite, next to Fell Church, if you need more space. Please be considerate of our neighbours.

Heating & Hot Water
The house has gas central heating, controlled by the remote thermostat in the hall.

The rear lounge radiator is normally on setting 1. The front lounge has an electric fire and there is a log burner in the dining room.
If the hot water runs out, press the “extra hour” button in the boiler cupboard in the first-floor blue bathroom.
Please note: the showers are electric, so please avoid showering all at the same time.

The range hob is gas; the grill and ovens are electric. Please clean the range before departure.
The washing machine and tumble dryer are in the boot room. Please avoid overloading them and air-dry where possible.
Baby & Toddler
A stair gate, high chair and booster chair are under the stairs. A travel cot, potty and baby bath are in the large wardrobe on the top floor. Fireguards are in the garage.

Pets are welcome. Bowls and dog items are in the boot room cupboard, with old towels for muddy paws.
Pets are allowed on the ground floor only and are not permitted on furniture or in bedrooms. Please clean up dog mess and do not leave dogs unattended.

You are welcome to sign into your Netflix or Amazon account — please remember to sign out before departure.
BBC iPlayer and ITVX are available under The Old Post Office account.
DVD players, family games, local-interest books, magazines and maps are also available.

Please try not to overload the electrics. The meter is in the sitting room and spare light bulbs are under the stairs.
The stop cock is under the sink in the boot room, with an additional control to the left of the sink cupboard. Both need to be turned off.
Rubbish: please use the large green bin next to the garage.
Hairdryer: there is a hairdryer in the dressing table drawer in the pink bedroom.

There is plenty of space for boots, shoes and coats. Please leave footwear on the racks. A picnic basket, dog items and cleaning supplies are also stored here.

Grange-over-Sands is an elegant coastal town overlooking Morecambe Bay, with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of Victorian and Edwardian character.
☕ Tide Cafe — a lovely local choice for artisan coffee, breakfast, lunch and cakes. 🥐 The Hazelmere Cafe & Bakery — a Grange institution for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and freshly baked breads, pastries and cakes. 🥧 Higginsons Butchers — a local favourite, especially for their amazing pies. 🍸 Grange Hotel — a handsome Victorian hotel by the station; a lovely option for drinks, afternoon tea or a more leisurely meal.
🌊 Take a stroll along the long, traffic-free promenade with views across Morecambe Bay.
🌿 Visit the Ornamental Gardens and enjoy the town's independent shops and relaxed atmosphere.
🥾 Explore the local footpaths and quiet lanes around the Cartmel Peninsula.
A little local history: Grange grew into a fashionable seaside resort after the railway arrived in the 1850s. Its promenade, gardens and period architecture are reminders of that era.
The sands are tidal, with fast-moving tides and areas of quicksand. Never attempt to cross the Bay without an official guide.

Nearby Cartmel is a beautiful historic village on the edge of the Lake District National Park, famous for its medieval heritage and exceptional food and drink.

⛪ Visit Cartmel Priory, the impressive 12th-century priory at the heart of the village.

🥾 Walk up to Hampsfell Hospice for wonderful panoramic views over Morecambe Bay and towards the Lakeland fells.
Allow time simply to wander around the village square, pretty streets and independent shops — Cartmel is lovely for a relaxed morning, afternoon or evening out.

The Old Post Office is a lovely base for exploring the southern Lake District. From lakeside cruises and steam trains to historic houses and easy waterside walks, there is plenty to enjoy within the wider South Lakes area.
🌊 Windermere Lake Cruises — one of the best ways to see England's largest lake. Cruises link places including Bowness, Ambleside, Brockhole and Lakeside, so you can enjoy the scenery from the water or combine a cruise with another attraction. 🚂 Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway — a charming heritage steam railway running between Haverthwaite and Lakeside at the southern end of Windermere. A lovely option for families and it combines particularly well with a lake cruise. 🌿 Fell Foot — a National Trust lakeside park at the southern tip of Windermere, with lawns, gentle walks, lake views and access to watersports and boat hire. A good choice for a picnic or a relaxed family day by the water.
⛴️ Bowness-on-Windermere — the liveliest lakeside centre on Windermere, with shops, cafés, restaurants and regular boat departures. 🏔️ Ambleside — a popular Lake District town at the northern end of Windermere, with independent shops, pubs, cafés and easy access to walking routes.
⛵ Coniston Water — a beautiful five-mile lake beneath the Old Man of Coniston. Enjoy a lakeside walk or take to the water on a traditional launch. Coniston is also closely associated with Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons and Donald Campbell's water-speed record story. 🚤 Coniston Launch — regular cruises and hop-on, hop-off services are a relaxing way to explore the lake.
🌳 Holker Hall & Gardens — close to Cartmel, with beautiful gardens, a historic house, café and seasonal events. 🌿 Levens Hall — a historic family home south of Kendal, famous for its remarkable topiary gardens, with a café and gardens to explore.
Our tip: for an easy South Lakes day out, combine the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway with a Windermere cruise, or spend a slower day at Fell Foot followed by a meal in Bowness or Cartmel.
